Will M. Watt...
...is a British voiceover artist and audiobook narrator with a talent for believable characters, intelligent delivery, and writing about himself in the third person.
Despite being a hideously precocious child, I was very slow to develop reading skills, and was falling behind in school. Knowing that my shortcomings were probably more a result of a lack of a interest than any more serious developmental issue, my parents hatched a plan to try to pique my interest in learning to read by introducing me to some great classic children's literature by way of BBC Radio 4's full-cast dramatised audiobooks for kids. Their plan worked! I was totally hooked, and listened to The Railway Children, and The Chronicles of Narnia ad nauseam, much to the chagrin of my six siblings. With my trusty Walkman always clipped stylishly to the waistband of my trousers, I began to dream of one day carving out a living as a professional story-teller. Now that I'm all grown up, I could not be more happy and proud to be doing just that!
My voice has been described as 'Lyrical', 'Jovial', and 'Youthful', and I tend to find myself booked for projects that need a conversational, believable, read with a little glint of personality or humour. A director recently told me on a remote-recording session that I always seem to have a "wry sparkle" in my eye. After furiously checking my booth for hidden cameras, I realised that he probably wasn't being too literal, and that this was probably more of metaphor for how I sound.
Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working on a really wide range of awesome projects. From national commercial campaigns (GoDaddy, Lumosity), to video games (Super Sky Arena, The Winterpoint Tragedy), to audiobooks (too many to list. Google me!), to corporate branding and e-learning. I'm even the voice of a sexy alarm clock app. No, really! This wide span of experience has given me a really great foundation to start cherry-picking the types of projects that I want to work on, and which are a good fit for my voice. I'm always up for a challenge, but find myself working increasingly in character-centric roles for games and animations, as well as soft-sell commercials and branding.
I work from my very own broadcast-quality studio. For fellow audio tech nerds, I use a Neumann U87 and a Sennheiser MKH-416, which run through an Avalon VT-737sp, and into an Apogee Duet 2. I record inside of a StudioBricks One isolation booth for audio that is crystal clear, and that doesn't carry any outside rumbles or noise-bleeds.
I absolutely love what I do, and nothing makes me happier than collaborating with other friendly, approachable people on projects that sound GREAT!
