Okay, so I've piqued your interest, but what am I actually talking about here? What am I looking for? You probably know what an audiobook is, right? But to better explain what this role will entail, it'll help for you to know a little about Duet Narration.

Duet narration is a method of audiobook creation that is particularly popular in the indie-romance scene. Duet narration is most often used in books that are written from alternating points of view of the male and female protagonists. In the male POV chapters, the male narrator reads the prose and all the male dialogue. All female dialogue is read by the female narrator, and vice-versa. Fans of duet narration like how it brings the story to life, and adds a sense of realism.

This style of narration is currently very popular, but takes significantly longer to edit than solo narration. The two narrators working on a duet narrated project usually work alone, and someone is responsible for taking each narrator's audio files, cleaning them up, and editing them together to match the script. The process itself is fairly simple, but is unavoidably time consuming.

Role Requirements

I am looking for someone to work with me on a freelance, ad-hoc basis to help edit my duet narrated projects. I need someone computer literate, someone who is happy agreeing to, and meeting deadlines, and someone with a fantastic attention to detail. I will fully train the successful candidate, and we will agree on an initial project as a probationary test. If all goes well, I'll hope to extend much more work to the ideal candidate in the future.

I'm looking for someone who will have the time to edit at least an hour of finished audio per day, Monday thru Friday. It's impossible to say how long it takes to edit this much audio, but I would expect a beginner to spend around two hours to produce a single finished hour of audio. With practice, this process will become much faster. It currently takes me around 30 minutes to edit an hour of audio.

It is essential that I am able to access all of the files that have been edited in my own editing software (Adobe Audition CC), so I would require for the successful candidate to also be using Audition. Audition can be purchased on a monthly subscription for around $20/month. It is the successful candidate's responsibility to pay for this.

All my audio files are stored on a cloud server at The successful candidate will need to use Box's sync client to share files with me. This software is free, but may cause strain to the CPU or memory capacity of your computer. An external hard drive would be a very sensible investment.

Arguably the most important requirement of all is that the ideal candidate must be comfortable working on R-rated projects, and projects that are sexually explicit. The majority of my duet narration work is romance and erotica, and I am known for working on the darker end of the spectrum. This role is not for anyone who is uncomfortable editing this kind of content.

Application Process

I'll be accepting applications until 6pm EST on Friday, 8th September 2017. I'll then make a shortlist of candidates and arrange a Skype call sometime next Monday, 11th/Tuesday, 12th September 2017 to go over some extra questions, and to give you a quick training session followed by a practical test. This test will allow me to assess your level of skill and, hopefully, make a final decision. For this practical test, you will need to have installed Adobe Audition on your computer. Adobe offers a 30-day free trial, so you won't need to worry about any costs.

I will be paying the successful candidate a starting rate of $35 (USD) per finished hour of edited audio for our first project. If we work well together and I decide to hire you again for a future project, I will raise this rate to $50 per finished hour. It's important to note that, whilst I will be providing training, the successful candidate will be taking on this role on a fully freelance capacity.
